New Beginnings for Gathering Point Ministry
Good afternoon, I feel today would be a great time to update everyone on what’s been going on with Gathering Point lately. First and foremost, many things have happened since my last post; most recently the situation in Milwaukee. I would just like to send a brief prayer out to all my fellow officers around the country trying to make a positive difference in their communities, your efforts will not go unnoticed. For the community, Gathering Point is still out here advocating for police reform and a positive change in community relations.
That being said, I am proud to announce that Gathering Point Community Council has acquired a new space in this time of transition. Located at 9050 South Ashland Ave., Gathering Point’s newest location is going to revive our ministerial roots.
Gilgal Ministries had occupied the area until recently, that’s when I decided to look into it. After touring the space and seeing how it would suit Gathering Point’s needs, I knew it would be the perfect location. Its past as Gilgal Ministries meant that it would already have space reserved where people could gather and direct their attention towards a speaker.
My goals for the new location are simple. I primarily want to highlight Gathering Point’s roots as a ministry for the community. With our ministry, we will be able to provide people with a space to gather, strangers or family, and speak about problems affecting the community. Gathering Point will also be able to host functions such as our Department of Justice, Superintendent of Police and Accountability Task Force meetings in the past.
Although Gathering Point has just acquired the space, expect us to be up and running within the next couple of months. As mentioned earlier, the previous layout of Gilgal Ministries has made settling in much easier. We are in the process of planning for a grand opening, and maybe even the arrival of local Alderman, Howard B. Brookins Jr. Make sure to check back for more updates about Gathering Point Community Council’s projects and events. Have a great day.
